The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR)

The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) supervises federal building measures in Berlin, Bonn and abroad, as well as building projects by the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin. The BBR supports the Federal Government in the policy fields of regional planning, urban planning, housing and building. Its range of tasks includes major building sites, model projects, aspects of building culture and monument preservation, questions of European cooperation, architectural competitions and housing market studies.

As a higher federal authority the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning is part of the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building. Since 2009, its research division has been merged with the Institute for Rehabilitation and Modernization of Buildings (IEMB) to form a departmental research institution, the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) within the BBR.

The BBR has approximately 1,050 employees based in Berlin. A further 480 employees work in the federal city of Bonn.
